Renewing the International Driving Permit: what to do when it expires

The Palestinian International Driving Permit is valid for one year from the issue date, and the permit itself isn’t renewed. After it expires you request a new one with the same steps, documents and price: 150 ILS, ready in about one working day. If your Palestinian licence has expired, renew that first — the IDP needs a valid local licence.

How long is the IDP valid?
One year from the issue date printed on it.
Its use also depends on your Palestinian licence: if your local licence expires, the IDP can’t be used even with months left on it.
Why isn’t there a “renewal”?
The IDP is a one-year document. After the year a new document is issued — so we say “new permit” rather than “renewal”: same steps, documents and price, and the new permit is valid for one year from its own issue date.
My IDP has expired — what do I do?
Check your Palestinian licence is valid
If it has expired or will expire during your trip, renew it first.
Prepare the same documents
A valid passport, your valid Palestinian licence (both sides) and a white-background photo. Full list in documents needed for the IDP.
Submit a new request
Online from the IDP service page, or at our Al-Masyoun office in Ramallah (Saturday–Thursday 9:00–16:30, Palestine time).
Pay 150 ILS
The same as the first time; delivery is optional and priced by area. Details in IDP price.
Receive your new permit
It’s ready in about one working day once documents are complete, and order updates reach you by email.
When should I apply before travelling?
The permit takes about one working day, but don’t leave it to the last day. Allow for delivery if you choose it, and for days off: our office is open Saturday to Thursday and closed on Friday.
Also make sure your Palestinian licence stays valid for the whole trip. If it expires during the trip, renew it before requesting the IDP.
Can I request a new permit from abroad?
