Documents needed for the International Driving Permit

Last reviewed:

Short answer

The Palestinian International Driving Permit needs three documents: your valid passport’s bio page, your valid Palestinian driving licence (front required, back recommended) and a recent personal photo on a white background. You must be 18 or older. Photograph each document whole and sharp; we check them and ask for anything missing before we submit.

The documents checklist

Have these ready before you start:

  • Passport bio page — a clear image; the passport must be valid.
  • Palestinian driving licence — front — required; the licence must be valid.
  • Palestinian driving licence — back — recommended, so send both sides.
  • A recent personal photo on a white background.

During the request we also ask for your Palestinian licence’s expiry date, so keep it handy.

Conditions for the IDP

  • A valid Palestinian driving licence. If it has expired, renew it first — the IDP can’t be issued or used without it.
  • Age 18 or older.
  • For travel and visits. It doesn’t replace your Palestinian licence and isn’t a solution if you live permanently in another country.
  • Carried with your Palestinian licence, always — never on its own.

Tips for photographing your documents

A clear photo the first time saves you a “could you retake that?” message. Before you upload:

  • Capture the whole document, every edge, nothing cropped.
  • Use good light and avoid flash glare on the licence.
  • Hold the phone steady and make sure the text is readable, not blurry.
  • Photograph both sides of the licence: front required, back recommended.
  • Personal photo: recent, face clearly visible, white background.
  • Upload each document in its own slot: passport in the passport field, licence in the licence field.

Common mistakes that delay a request

  • An expired Palestinian licence, or one expiring during the trip.
  • Blurry or cropped images of the passport or licence.
  • A personal photo without a white background, or an old one.
  • A document in the wrong slot, such as the passport in the licence field.
  • Buying an “international licence” online instead of the official, federation-issued permit.
