Country guide — International Driving Permit
Palestinian International Driving Permit in Turkey
Last reviewed:
Short answer
Yes — Turkey is on our guidance list and, like Palestine, is a party to the 1968 Vienna road-traffic convention, as well as the 1949 Geneva convention. Carry the IDP with your valid Palestinian licence and passport, and check the visitor driving period before you travel.
The legal basis: international road-traffic conventions
Turkey has been a party to the Geneva Convention on Road Traffic since 1956 and to the Vienna Convention since 2013. Palestine joined the Vienna Convention in 2019, so both countries sit within the same international framework the IDP is built on.
Renting a car in Turkey
Car-rental companies may ask for the IDP together with your Palestinian licence, passport and a credit card — terms differ by company. Ask the company about its conditions and insurance cover before you book.
If you book online before you travel, read the company’s terms on foreign licences, minimum driver age and the deposit held on your card.
At a traffic police check
Carry both licences together: your valid Palestinian driving licence and the International Driving Permit, plus your passport. The IDP is an official translation of your licence, not a licence on its own.
- Valid Palestinian driving licence
- International Driving Permit (valid one year from issue)
- Passport
- Vehicle papers or rental agreement
If you move to Turkey
The IDP is for travel and visits, not a long-term residence solution. If you get residence, ask the competent Turkish authorities about converting your licence or obtaining a local one.
How long can you drive in Turkey as a visitor?
How long a visitor may drive on a foreign licence depends on the length of stay and the type of visa. Check with the country’s embassy or official traffic authority before you travel — don’t rely on unofficial websites.
Get your IDP in Palestine
The IDP is issued by the Palestinian Motor Sports and Motorcycles Federation, and Tasheel is its accredited agent. It costs 150 ILS, is ready in about one working day once your documents are complete, and is valid for one year from issue. Full details in our step-by-step IDP guide.
- Clear copy of your passport bio page (valid)
- Valid Palestinian driving licence — front (back recommended)

Frequently asked questions
Is the Palestinian IDP recognised in Turkey?
Turkey is on our guidance list, and both Turkey and Palestine are parties to the Vienna road-traffic convention. Always carry it with your Palestinian licence and check the rental company’s terms.
Will an “international licence” bought online work?
We don’t recommend it. Those are unofficial translation booklets, not issued by the Palestinian federation, and police, rental or insurance companies may reject them.

Is the IDP enough on its own to drive in Turkey?
No. The IDP is always carried with your valid Palestinian driving licence; it is never used on its own.
